Main properties of ductile iron

Main properties: Ductile iron castings are used in almost all major industrial sectors, requiring high strength, plasticity, toughness, wear resistance, severe heat and mechanical shock resistance, high and low temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, and dimensional stability. To adapt to these changing conditions of use, ductile iron has many grades, providing a wide range of mechanical and physical properties.

  Main performance

Ductile iron Ductile iron parts are used in almost all major industrial sectors, requiring high strength, ductility, toughness, wear resistance, severe heat and mechanical shock resistance, high and low temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, and dimensional stability. To accommodate these varying service conditions, ductile iron is available in many grades, providing a wide range of mechanical and physical properties.

According to the International Organization for Standardization ISO1083, most Ductile iron castings are mainly produced in non-alloy form. Obviously, this range includes high-strength grades with tensile strengths greater than 800 N/mm2 and elongations of 2%. At the other extreme are high plastic grades with elongations greater than 17% and corresponding lower strengths (minimum 370 N/mm2). Strength and elongation are not the only criteria for designers to choose materials; other decisive and important properties include yield strength, modulus of elasticity, wear and fatigue strength, hardness, and impact properties. In addition, corrosion and oxidation resistance, as well as electromagnetic properties, may be critical to designers. To meet these special applications, a group of austenitic ductile irons, commonly known as Ni-Resis ductile irons, have been developed. These austenitic ductile irons are mainly alloyed with nickel, chromium, and manganese and are included in international standards.

is pearlitic ductile iron, which has medium to high strength, medium toughness and plasticity, high comprehensive performance, good wear resistance and vibration damping, and good casting process performance. Its properties can be changed by various heat treatments. It is mainly used for various power machinery crankshafts, camshafts, connecting shafts, connecting rods, gears, clutch plates, hydraulic cylinders and other parts.
