1. Development trend of cast iron materials for automobile castings High-strength thin-walled gray cast iron technology Gray cast iron is widely used in automobiles because of its low cost and good casting performance. With the requirements of lightweight automobile technology, the growth and development of gray cast iron will be affected to a certain extent. Therefore, strengthening the development and application of thin-walled high-strength cylinder block and cylinder head casting technology will be the development trend.


2. Compacted graphite iron technology Compared with gray cast iron, compacted graphite iron has the strength of ductile iron, similar vibration resistance, thermal conductivity and casting performance, good plasticity and thermal fatigue resistance, which can solve the problem of thermal fatigue cracks in high-power cylinder heads. Compacted graphite iron has a huge potential market and is widely used in the automotive industry. Its main products are engine cylinder blocks and high-power diesel engine cylinder head castings. With the increase of automobile lightweight and specific power (kW/displacement), the working temperature of cylinder blocks and cylinder heads is getting higher and higher, and the working temperature of many parts exceeds 200. At this temperature, the strength of aluminum alloy decreases greatly, while compacted graphite iron has great advantages.


3. Automobile casting ductile iron technology Ductile iron still has great development in the automobile market due to its high strength, high toughness and low price. There are four types of technical development trends for ductile iron products in the automotive industry. The first is cast pearlite, high-strength truck and automobile crankshafts, cast ferrite, high-elongation automobile exhaust pipes and bridge shell chassis castings; the second is safety casting, casting production of automobile steering knuckles; the third is heat-resistant ductile iron parts, high-silicon molybdenum, medium-silicon molybdenum, high-nickel ductile iron parts, and exhaust pipe parts produced with this material; the fourth is ADI, which is mainly used to produce products such as crankshafts. In addition, automobile foundries also produce as-cast ductile iron chilled camshafts.

With the rapid development of automobile casting technology, in order to shorten the preparation cycle of casting production and reduce the risk of new product development, rapid prototyping technology, computer simulation, three-dimensional modeling and numerical control technology are widely used. Rapid prototyping technology can be used to develop molds for new product trial production and wax molds for investment casting, and can also be used to make phenolic resin shell and core, and can also directly assemble sand molds. Modeling is becoming one of the cutting-edge fields of international automobile casting. Magma and Zhuhua software are used to simulate and analyze the temperature field and flow field of the new product casting filling and solidification process, and to predict and analyze the defects of the casting.


5. Casting inspection technology The application of non-destructive testing technology is becoming more and more widespread. Fluorescent magnetic particle is often used to detect surface cracks in important parts. Ultrasonic or audio detection of spheroidization rate of ductile iron: check the pearlite content of the matrix structure of eddy current castings. In order to meet the requirements for detecting important parts, some combine the above three detection instruments into an automatic detection line.


6. Development trend of green casting technology "Green casting" refers to the low negative impact on the environment and high resource efficiency of casting products throughout the entire product life cycle from design, manufacturing, packaging, transportation, use to disposal. The casting industry has always been considered a high-energy-consuming and high-polluting industry. It is necessary to continuously develop new energy-saving, clean, low-emission, and low-pollution casting materials and put them into production and use.
