What are automotive castings?
Discussed various types of automotive castings. With the advancement of science and technology, the requirements for automotive castings are also increasing. We need more refined, better performing, and lower cost castings. To meet these requirements, automotive casting workers have invented many new automotive casting methods. These methods are collectively referred to as special automotive casting methods, namely special automotive castings.
Discussed various types of automobile castings. With the advancement of science and technology, the requirements for automobile castings are also increasing. We need more refined, better performance, and lower-cost castings. To meet these requirements, automobile casting workers have invented many new automobile casting methods. These methods are collectively referred to as special automobile casting methods, namely special automobile casting.

Special automobile castings: Less sand or sand-less automobile castings use special processes and equipment for special automobile casting methods, such as investment casting, metal automobile casting, pressure automobile casting, low-pressure automobile casting, centrifugal automobile casting, ceramic automobile casting, solid automobile casting, etc. (This article will introduce various special castings in detail.) When fine automobile castings, the demolding mechanism should be reasonably designed to ensure the correct geometry of the parts, and the general surface is not inclined. However, when pressing without pulling the design mechanism, the angle of the casting is usually considered when the casting surface is perpendicular to the parting surface. This is beneficial for removing the casting from the mold. It can also reduce the friction between the casting and the mold and reduce the deformation and damage of the mold.
For machined surfaces and machined bevels with a wall thickness of less than 5mm, they can be made by increasing the wall thickness of the casting. For processing wall thicknesses on 5-10mm bevels, the wall thickness of the casting can be increased or decreased in the form of combined production.
For the processing of inclined surfaces with a wall thickness greater than 10mm, it can be made by reducing the wall thickness of the casting. For castings with holes and grooves, the slope should be given according to the length of the hole and the depth of the groove. For deeper holes, since the core is drawn earlier and the mold material has less clamping force, there is no draft angle.
Main characteristics of special castings
From the perspective of automobile casting technology, special castings have better surface finish. Special automobile castings change the filling and cooling conditions of liquid metal, and the grain structure is more dense and finer. Reduce metal consumption and casting scrap rate, high production efficiency. The special automobile casting process can be simplified (except for investment automobile casting), which is easy to mechanize and automate. Special castings can reduce production costs, improve labor conditions, and increase labor productivity. Special castings have better ductility than castings.
The process is based on rapidly hardening a mixture of thermosetting resin and sand by heating to produce shell molds. You can use shell molding to produce simple and special castings. This casting has strict tolerances and high dimensional stability. One way to produce high-quality castings is shell molding. This mold material is mixed with resin to form a smoother, faster heating cavity. This is why shell-type automobile castings are more accurate and automated than sand-type automobile castings.
Shell automobile casting process
Mold making: We heat the special cast iron design to 230-315°C. Let the sand sit on it for a few minutes to partially solidify. Then flip the special mold to remove excess sand. After that, we get a shell with a wall thickness of 10-20 mm. After the sand solidifies, the pulling force of the model and the shell will reach 350-450 PSI.
Pattern removal: After the shell is solidified, remove the pattern.
Mold assembly: Clamp the two halves of the mold together to complete the shell mold. If any cores are needed, they are inserted before the mold is closed. The shell mold is then placed in a flask supported by a backing material.
Pouring: The mold is securely clamped together as molten metal is poured from the ladle into the gating system and fills the mold cavity.
Shell-type automobile casting applications: After the molten metal cools, the mold can be broken to remove special castings. Trimming and cleaning processes are required to remove excess metal from the feeding system and any sand from the mold.
