Application and Development Trends of Automotive Castings

Automotive castings are important components in the automotive industry, and there are many types of manufacturing processes, including die casting, gravity casting, sand casting, precision casting and other technologies. Among them, die casting is a common process, which uses high pressure to fill the molten metal in the mold, and then obtains the required parts through cooling and demolding. Gravity casting uses the principle of free fall to inject molten metal into the mold and achieve the purpose of casting through solidification.

Sand casting uses sand molds as casting molds, injecting molten metal into them and destroying the sand molds to obtain parts. Precision casting relies on high-precision molds and precision injection equipment to manufacture high-precision parts. With the development of the automotive industry, there are more and more types of automotive castings, and the application range is also expanding. At present, common castings on automobiles include engine blocks, frames, gearbox housings, etc. With the increasing requirements for lightweight vehicles and energy conservation and environmental protection, new materials and manufacturing processes are emerging, such as high-strength aluminum alloys, high-pressure casting, and hydraulic casting. These new processes and materials will greatly promote the development of automotive castings.

In the future, with the continuous advancement of technology, automotive castings will continue to innovate and change, and more precise, lighter, and more durable parts will continue to emerge, providing better support for the development of the automotive industry. Automotive castings refer to various automotive parts manufactured using casting processes in the automotive manufacturing process. Castings are an indispensable part of the automotive manufacturing process, including various engine parts, body parts, steering system parts, clutch and brake system parts, etc.

According to the material of the castings, the castings can be divided into cast steel castings, cast iron castings, aluminum alloy castings, etc. The manufacturing process of castings mainly includes mold manufacturing, casting, subsequent processing, and quality inspection. Castings are widely used in various parts of automobile manufacturing, among which engines and bodies are the most used parts. The selection of casting materials needs to consider various factors, such as performance requirements, manufacturing costs, and service life. With the continuous advancement of technology, casting manufacturing technology is also constantly updated. In the future, casting manufacturing will be more intelligent and effective.

Automotive casting production processes are complete and the technology is advanced. Cold and hot air cupola and electric furnace duplex melting process are adopted, and pneumatic, isostatic, extrusion, high-pressure, and shell molding technologies, cold core, hot core, shell core making technologies, and program-controlled sand treatment systems are applied to produce gray iron, ductile iron, vermicular iron and other castings; non-ferrous castings adopt high-pressure casting, gravity casting, and investment casting processes to produce aluminum-magnesium castings, die castings and other non-ferrous alloy castings. The products cover important automotive castings, including engine castings such as cylinder blocks, cylinder heads, and crankshafts, and transmission castings such as transmission housings and clutch housings, and chassis castings such as rear axle housings, among which the products are at the domestic advanced level.

In summary, automotive castings play an indispensable role in automobile manufacturing. With the continuous development of the automotive industry, casting manufacturing technology is also constantly updated. We have reason to believe that the future of casting manufacturing will be more intelligent and effective.
